Why I Fundraise for DSDN

When I first learned about DSDN, I didn’t immediately feel the need to reach out. I had seen testimonials about feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and isolated after a Down syndrome diagnosis—but that wasn’t my experience. Still, as we began navigating IEP meetings and medical decisions, I realized I did need support—from people who had walked this walk before me. Joining the DSDN community opened my eyes to just how much guidance and reassurance I had been missing. Some of the stress and uncertainty we faced could’ve been eased with the right information and connection early on. Now, on the other side as a volunteer, I’m committed to making sure both new and veteran parents receive the support, resources, and sense of belonging they deserve. The 2024 Rockin’ Mom™ retreat lit a fire in me—to serve this incredible community and give back alongside parents who just get it.

なぜDSDNのファンドレイジングをしているのか

最初にDSDN（ダウン症診断ネットワーク）のことを知ったとき、正直言うとすぐに連絡をしようとは思いませんでした。診断を受けて落ち込んだり孤独を感じたという声をたくさん目にしましたが、私自身はそういう気持ちにはあまりならなかったんです。

でも、IEP（個別教育支援計画）の会議や、医療のことでいろいろと悩み始めたころ、「やっぱり経験者の話が聞きたい」と思うようになって、DSDNのコミュニティに辿り着きました。そこから「私、今まで大事な情報や繋がりを見逃してたんだな」と気づきました。例えば心臓手術のことや胃腸の問題など、もっと早く知っていたら、あんなに悩まずに済んだこともあったかもしれません。

今では、ボランティアとしてこの素敵なコミュニティの一員として活動しています。新しくダウン症の診断を受けたご家族や、今まさに頑張っている親御さんたちが、必要なサポートと温かいつながりを受け取れるようにしたい。それが私の想いです。

2024年の「Rockin’ Mom™ リトリート」に参加したことで、このコミュニティへの愛と「私も何かしたい！」という気持ちに火がつきました。悩みを分かち合える、心から共感しあえる仲間たちと共に活動できることが、本当にうれしいです。
